Admission Requirements

Information regarding the next admissions period will be updated in November 2016.

To qualify applicants need to fulfill the admission requirements based on previous studies, English proficiency and documentation.

1. Previous studies: A completed Bachelor's degree

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree encompassing a minimum of 180 ECTS credits or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university.

Conditional acceptance
Students in their final year of undergraduate education may also apply and if qualified, receive a conditional acceptance. If you have not completed your studies, please include a written statement from the degree administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you are enrolled in the final year of your education and giving your expected completion date. If you receive a conditional offer, you should present your degree certificate to your entry university before enrollment at the latest. Applicants following longer technical programmes and who have completed courses equivalent to an amount of 180 ECTS, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Specific Admission Requirements

Software Services and Architecture (SSA)

A  B.Sc. degree primarily in computer science, software engineering, information systems, telecom or digital media is required.  In special cases bachelor degrees from areas like engineering, economics, or industrial arts and design with some potential complementary computer science studies etc. mathematics and programming can be considered.

Human Computer Interaction and Design (HCID)

A  B.Sc. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering or information systems is required. In special cases students from industrial design, media technology, computational linguistics, and cognitive sciences with sufficient skills in mathematics, software design and programming can be considered.

Digital Media Technology (DMT)

A B.Sc. in electrical engineering or computer science is required. Previous education must have included basic mathematics courses within linear algebra, Fourier methods and probability theory.

Internet Technology and Architectures (ITA)

A  B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, computer engineering or information technology is required. Sufficient background in basic data communications, telecommunications and internetworking as well as mathematics, including calculus, linear algebra and mathematical statistics is also required.

Cloud Computing and Services (CCS)

A B.Sc. degree in computer science, computer engineering or information systems, is required. Students should have basic competence in mathematics, theoretical foundations of CS, algorithms and data structures, software engineering and database systems, computer architectures, computer networks and operating systems. 

Security and Privacy (S&P)

A B.Sc. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering or information systems sciences with solid skills in mathematics, electrical engineering, software design and programming is required. The average grade must be at least 75% of the scale maximum.

Embedded Systems (ES)

A B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering/ electronics, computer engineering, computer science or information technology is required. The studies should include at least 60 ECTS courses in computer science, computer architecture, or programming, and mathematics including calculus, algebra and mathematical statistics. 

Data Science (DSC)

A B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering/ electronics, computer engineering, computer science or information technology is required. The studies should include at least 60 ECTS courses in computer science, computer architecture, or programming, and mathematics including calculus, algebra and mathematical statistics. 

2. Language requirements: Proof of English language proficiency

Applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency, which is generally established through an internationally recognized test. The general tests and exemptions listed below are accepted by all universities in the EIT Digital Master School.

 

If you do not fulfil the general language requirements, you may still be able to apply to some universities. A number of the universities accept additional tests or exemptions. We have listed the additional tests and exemptions of the entry universities under ”University specific language tests and exemptions”. Please note that if you do not fulfil the general language requirements, this may also have implications on your eligibility for some of the exit universities.

General language requirements

IELTS Academic Training test (www.ielts.org)
An overall band score of at least 6.5, with no section lower than 6, is required. IELTS-tests are verified online by the Admissions office, submitting a photocopy of your test together with your application documents is therefore sufficient.

TOEFL Internet-based test, iBT (www.toefl.org)
A total score of at least 92 (with writing section 22) is required. English test results from TOEFL should be sent directly from the ETS test center to EIT Digital Master School (institution code: 0210). Examinee score reports or photocopies are not accepted. 

Please note that it can take several weeks for your test scores to arrive from ETS, so arrange for them to be sent to EIT Digital Master School as early as possible.

UCL no longer accepts TOEFL as a valid English language certificate.

University of Cambridge / University of Oxford Certificates
Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): grades A- C are accepted.
Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): grades A- C are accepted.

English proficiency tests are waived for applicants who:

  • have completed a higher education degree instructed in English at a university in an EU/EEA country or a university of applied sciences in an EU/EEA country. The official language of the degree programme has to be stated in the degree certificate or its supplement, or in the transcript of records. Statements are not accepted. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
  • have completed a degree instructed in English at a university that is physically located in one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.

University specific language tests and exemptions

Aalto University

For applicants choosing Aalto as their entry university, the following tests are also accepted:

  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test): A total score of 580 and writing score 4.0
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic only) : A total score of 59 and writing score 50.

Additional exemptions from the English language tests:

  • Applicants who have completed a higher education degree instructed in Finnish, Swedish or English at a Finnish university or a university of applied sciences.
  • Applicants who have studied as exchange students in the field of science and technology at Aalto University.
  • Applicants who are EU/EEA citizens from partner universities of Aalto University in the field of science and technology.

As an exit university, Aalto requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

ELTE (Eötvös Loránd University)

All state accredited language examinations (according to the CEFR) - minimum requirement: level B2.

TU Berlin

For applicants choosing TU Berlin as their entry university, the following tests are also accepted:

  • UNIcert II (corresponds to European Level B2)
  • Cambridge English: First (FCE), also known as First Certificate in English : level C or higher
  • TOEFL ITP with at least 543 points (only accepted if taken locally at the School of Computer Science at TU Berlin)
  • FCE FIRST Cambridge Certificate of English, at least B2
  • CET-6 (450 points or higher)
  • At least 30 ECTS taken at a university where the teaching language is English (needs to be mentioned on transcript or degree certificate)
  • Bachelor studies in English (needs to be mentioned on transcript or degree certificate)
  • Bachelor studies in English (needs to be mentioned on transcript or degree certificate)
  • English as mother tongue
  • For German applicants:
    Sprachkurse bei der ZEMS oder anderen Hochschule mind. Level B2

TU Eindhoven

For applicants choosing TU Eindhoven as their entry university, no other tests than the common tests are accepted. Please note that the language test results may not be older than 2 years.

Additional exemptions from the English language tests:

  • Students who have gained a diploma at the Dutch VWO level (pre-university education level) are exempted.
  • Students from India or Turkey applying for a Master program, who have followed their Bachelor education with English as the sole language of instruction, are also exempted if they submit with their application an official letter or statement from the university where the higher education program was followed. This letter / statement should be printed on official letter-headed paper of the university and state clearly the name of the student, and that the entire previous education was conducted in English as the first medium of instruction.

TU Delft

The required levels for CAE and CPE is at least a B.

UTwente

For applicants choosing UTwente as their entry university, there are no additional tests and waivers. Please note that the language test results may not be older than 2 year.

  • Students who have gained a diploma at the Dutch VWO level (pre-university education level) are exempted.
  • Students from India or Turkey applying for a Master program, who have followed their Bachelor education with English as the sole language of instruction, are also exempted if they submit with their application an official letter or statement from the university where the higher education program was followed. This letter / statement should be printed on official letter-headed paper of the university and state clearly the name of the student, and that the entire previous education was conducted in English as the first medium of instruction.

UPMC

For applicants choosing UPMC as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575 
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.

As an exit university, UMPC requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

UPS

For applicants choosing UPS as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • CLES (CLES2, level B2 of CEFR, www.certification-cles.fr/index.php?cont_id=12&lang=en)
  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, in accordance with the recommendations in the edition of the International Handbook of Universities that was current the year the degree was awarded.
  • Students with a formal transcript or degree certificate where it is clearly stated that the language of instruction was English. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
  • For applicants from France: proof of high-school level in English.

As an exit university, UPS requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

UNITN

  • Cambridge CAE, grade A or B.
  • FCE First Cambridge Certificate of English, grade A is accepted.

KTH

For applicants choosing KTH as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) : Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test, total score of 575
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where the language of instruction of the course is English. The language of instruction must be clearly stated on official documents.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS credits) in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Medicine, Pharmacy, Science or Technology from India or Pakistan unless it is documented that the language of instruction for the programme was a language other than English.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, in accordance with the recommendations in the edition of the International Handbook of Universities that was current the year the degree was awarded.
  • Students with a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS credits) where English is the main subject.
  • Students with 30 higher education credits (equivalent to 30 ECTS credits) from Great Britain, Ireland, Malta, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, or English speaking parts of Canada. The language of instruction must be English.
  • Students with a formal transcript or degree certificate where it is clearly stated that the language of instruction was English. Other documentation regarding language of instruction will not be accepted.
  • Turkish students who have studied a 1 year preparatory class in English at a University. The class must be listed on the transcript and the student must have received a passing grade.
  • In some cases English proficiency can be fulfilled from upper secondary education, e.g. GCE O-level (minimum grade C). Proof thereof must be enclosed in the application.
  • Pearson PTE Academic: score of 62 (writing 61)
  • Michigan English Language Assesment Battery (MELAB): minimum score of 90
  • University of Michigan, Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE)

As an exit university, KTH requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

U. Rennes 1

For applicants choosing U. Rennes 1 as their entry university, the following tests and waivers are also accepted:

As an exit university, U. Rennes 1 requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

UTU

For applicants choosing University of Turku as their entry university, the following tests are also accepted:

  • TOEFL PBT (paper-based test): A total score of 575
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic only) : A total score of 62, no individual scores below 54.
  • A Bachelor's (or higher) degree in English in an EU or an EEA country.

Additional exemptions from the English language tests:

  • Secondary education in English in Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, or the U.S.A.
  • English as the A language (i.e. mother tongue) as a part of IB (International Baccalaureate), or as the LI (i.e. mother tongue), or the LII (i.e. as the official language) as a part of EB (European Baccalaureate).
  • A Bachelor's (or higher) degree from a university in Finland or a degree from anammattikorkeakoulu institution in Finland, if the applicant has demonstrated language skills in the English language according to the requirements concerning foreign language studies in Bachelor's and polytechnic degrees in Finland.

As an exit university, UTU requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

UPM

  • TOEFL CBT (computer-based test): with a score of at least 227.
  • TOEFL iBT : 72
  • IELTS, score of 5.0 or higher
  • Cefr lever B2

As an exit university, UPM requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

UNS

For applicants choosing UNS as their entry university, UNS accepts CEFR, minimum requirement: level B2.

As an exit university, UNS requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

Language requirements at universities which are only available as exits

BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics)

All state accredited language examinations (according to the CEFR) - minimum requirement: level B2. IELTS: overall band score of 5.0

TOELF iBT, 90; TOEFL PBT, 550.

IMT (Institut Telecom)

As an exit university, IMT requires no further proof of English proficiency as long as year 1 of EIT Digital has been successfully completed at a partner university.

SU (Saarland University)

All state accredited language examinations (according to the CEFR) - minimum requirement: level B2.

TU-DA (Darmstadt)

All state accredited language examinations (according to the CEFR) - minimum requirement: level B2.

UCL

An IELTS overall mark of 6.5, with no section lower than 6.0 (only Academic Training accepted). Cambridge CAE, level C1 (score over 179). Note that students about to start their second year must have taken their test no later than two years previous to the moment of enrolment.
